  • Bushman - Brand New Second Hand Gal / Legalize It
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
It's commonly known that Peter Tosh has been the most important influence on Jamaican singer Dwight Duncan aka Bushman. The latter did a cover version of Peter Tosh's "Buckingham Palace" aka "Buk-In-Hamm Palace", which appeared on 7" vinyl and also on his 2008 released cd "Get It In Your Mind". Since then Bushman has been thinking of recording a 'tribute' album entitled "Bushman Sings The Bush Doctor". The album has been three years in the pipeline due to negotiations to get the rights etc., but now it looks like it's gonna see its release on the 15th of February 2011. As a teaser for that album, VP Records have released a double A-sided single featuring renditions of "Brand New Second Hand", which was recorded in 1971 and produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry, and the much covered herb anthem "Legalize It" from 1976. The way Bushman delivers both tunes evokes memories of Peter Tosh at his best and raises expectations for the upcoming album.
