Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Archie Wonder hails from the Jamaican parish of Clarendon, where he got his start in the music business by singing on local sounds like Bodyguard, Black Cat and especially Commando. Yami Bolo and Sanchez were among his favourite artists at that time, but soon he developed his own style. After having joined up with producers like Jah Screw, Winston Riley and Lloyd Dennis in order to start a decent recording career, he arrived in the UK during the summer of 2000, whereupon he teamed up with Birmingham producer Whooligan.

Then Jet Star took him to the next stage in his recording career as they promptly put him to work under the watchful supervision of well-respected artist/producer Vivian Jones and accompanied by such fine musicians as Mafia & Fluxy, Tony Phillips and Carlton "Bubbler" Ogilvie. It led to the release of his debut album "She Didn't Know I Missed The Plane", which saw the light of day in 2001. Since then he has recorded with several producers and scored a massive hit with "Hero".

From his days with Lloyd Dennis of Pickout Records comes this nice digital re-release of a tune called "I Want You". It comes from a 1999 recording session and the sparse digital riddim is called "Hard Rock", played by Steely and Clevie. Several other vocalists - including Capleton, Bushman, and Dennis Brown - voiced it too. Here Archie Wonder lays down an aching heartfelt lovers tune. His vocal delivery comes fine with the digital riddim. A stripped down "Club Mix", and the instrumental cut completes this nice re-release.
