  • Taffari - Be Merciful (Dub Mix) / Be Merciful (Ballad)
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
One of the up-and-coming Jamaican artists in the modern roots style is Taffari. Born as Boris Anthony Silvera in the district Bagnol Spring in the parish of St. Mary on March 8, 1971 he grew up in the countryside of Jamaica before moving to Kingston at the age of 16. He made his recording debut in 1988, then under the name Singing Bird. Throughout the nineties he recorded for producers like Phillip 'Fatis' Burrell, Mikey Magic, Impact from New York, Super Blaster, policeman Isiah Laing, Soljie and the Firehouse Crew, to name a few. Whilst starting to record an album for Syl Gordon's "321 Strong label" Singing Bird changed his name to Taffari. Besides recording for other producers Taffari produces and records his as well as other artists' tunes for his own "AL.TA.FA.AN" label. This CD single contains two versions of a tune entitled "Be Merciful", produced by Taffari in association with Anthony Senior and Al Graham. "Be Merciful" is a solid and appealing conscious tune delivered over a "live" played, fresh riddim. The production of this tune is crisp and clear and the addition of female backing vocals to Taffari's vocal delivery works very well. Vocally and lyrically Taffari proves a fine roots singer, who has the potency to reach a broad audience.
