Artist & tune

  • A2O - Caribbean Dreamin' (Main Mix) / Caribbean Dreamin' (Dub Version) / Caribbean Dreamin' (Acoustic Version) / Caribbean Dreamin' (Accapella Version)
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
In the mid-sixties a vocal quartet formed by two male and two female vocalists who called themselves The Mamas & The Papas, scored a worldwide pop hit with a song called "California Dreamin'". Now, more than 40 years after that tune was released, an up-and-coming four-man vocal group from Jamaica, A2O (Against All Odds), have recorded a real nice reggae version of that tune with slightly different, more fitting lyrics. "Caribbean Dreamin'" was recently recorded in the Anchor Studio, Kingston JA, with such excellent musicans as Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Dalton Brownie, and Robbie Lyn laying down the backing track and Ian Hard playing the flute solo (so typical for the original version of the song). Vocally the four members of A2O impress with their truly golden voices, and also the musical backing is well arranged which makes it a joy to listen to "Caribbean Dreamin'". Without doubt it's a perfect tune for the festive season and one that surely will appeal to the mature listener.
