Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Living in Canada Leroy Gibbons, who emerged in the eighties, had developed a powerful vocal style. He returned to Jamaica and recorded the excellent combination track "Bruk Camera" alongside Dillinger for Steely & Clevie. In the digital era he was a beloved performer and scored with a superb album, entitled "Four Season Lover" for King Jammy, comprising all his major hits. Although he kept recording in Jamaica, his sessions for London-based Fashion Records have stood the test of time particularly well. Throughout the nineties and at the beginning of the new millennium little has been heard of him. However, here's a notable 7" single from this veteran singer, which he recently recorded for Dubwise Productions. It sees Leroy Gibbons in real good shape, providing uplifting encouragement to those struggling in the face of adversity over a thundering rockers riddim. "Chant Down Babylon" is wicked conscious tune driven by a wicked heavyweight bass sound. Also worth of hearing is the dub version on the flipside entitled "Chant Down Babylon".
