Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Here's another worthy 7" vinyl single release from the Japan based Rock A Shacka label, that will surely thrill collectors of classic tunes on 7" vinyl. This time the people behind the Rock A Shacka imprint have paired Roy Panton's rocksteady tune "Endless Memory" with Boris Gardiner's wonderful "I'm Alone".

The Boris Gardiner produced "Endless Memory" by Roy Panton, who recorded for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One record label as part of a duo called Roy & Millie (Small), previously appeared on Jamaican labels like Carltone and Gayfeet. Roy Panton delivers one of his best rocksteady tunes across a haunting rocksteady riddim. Also the beautiful harmony singing that accompanies Roy Panton's vocal deserves to be heard. This is rocksteady at its very best. Can't stop playing this tune over and over again.

The flipside features a great tune from Boris Gardiner called "I'm Alone", of which the original vinyl is near impossible to find. Boris Gardiner, who recorded this tune in 1969 when rocksteady was just beginning to transform into true reggae, excels on this effort. In contrast to tunes such as "I Wanna Wake Up With You", this one isn't syrupy at all, which makes it more interesting for fans of vintage reggae. "I'm Alone" is a real winner!
