  • General Degree - Hypocrites
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Dancehall reggae artist Cardiff Butt, better known as General Degree or simply Degree (but also as Daddy Teddy or Snapple Dapple) is one of those dancehall artists who despite an impressive parade of number one hits both at home and abroad never achieved a giant breakthrough like for example Shabba Ranks or Beenie Man. General Degree emerged in the early '90s and scored with his first recording for Main Street producer Danny Browne, the 1992 released single "Granny", his first number one hit. This tune and countless others including "Mr Do It Nice", "Bodyguard", "Pianist", "Papa Lover", "Hold Yuh Tonight", "Cartoon Character", "Traffic Blocking", "Boom Boom", and the 1998 smash "Bag A Tings" kept the artist on the charts.

In the first half of the new millennium the always interesting General Degree also voiced a few riddims for Germaican Records including "Pharaoh", "Rodeo" and "Doctor's Darling". Now he's back on the label's digital outlet with a tune called "Hypocrites" on the earlier this year released "Yu Go!" riddim. That he's always vocally ambidextrous on a riddim is once again showcased on this infectious backdrop with its irrepressible body-shaking beats, which was produced by Emir "Youthman" Kobilic. General Degree's "Hypocrites" with its razor-sharp lyrics is a winner and most likely one of the highlights of the forthcoming "Yu Go! World Wide" riddim set.
