It's been quite some time since we've heard anything from Marc Gordon aka Marquis Melody, a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer who hails from both the San Francisco Bay Area and Kingston, Jamaica. But now he's back with his latest effort, a decent heartfelt lovers tune called "Hearts Of Fire". The latter, a passionate plea from him to her to set the 'hearts on fire', is pure Roots Rock Reggae with a real nice Ska groove. As the story goes, it began with the guitar in the chorus line then pre-chorus ... lyrics soon followed. Marquis Melody played the guitar in the intro whereas Kem Dyson took up the rest. The final recording of the riddim was done in collaboration with musician associates of the artist at the Tuff Gong studio, Kingston JA, including experienced Jamaican musicians such as "Horsemouth" Wallace, Paul "Wrongmove" Crossdale, Christopher Meredith and Ansel Collins. The girls of LMJ provided the backing vocals. The only thing that might get annoying when listening to the five versions in one go, is the prominent use of a rock guitar sound in the mix.

(There are interesting stories to be told behind this tune as well, i.e. the day of recording Marquis Melody had to 'pay off' the police as Horsemouth rushed to the studio without his papers and police threatened to 'take him in'... only after being police escorted to Tuff Gong and the artist & engineers giving the police a "chat" and some cash, they did let him record!)
