  • Peter Spence - How To Love / The Truth
Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Always interesting to hear new tunes from Peter Spence, because this hardly prolific fine singer has consistently delivered quality material. For this double A-sided single he has linked with producer Phillip Gadd, whose inimitable production skills especially come to the fore when working with vocalists such as Peter Culture, Carlton Livingston and, of course, Peter Spence. The latter treats us to two self-penned observational songs, utilizing two different 1967 rock steady riddims from Lynn Taitt & The Jets. The solid "How To Love" uses Derrick Morgan's "Pretty Blue Eyes" and the excellent "The Truth" uses another Derrick Morgan classic entitled "Happy Independence". (These tunes can be found on the Derrick Morgan compilation "Do The Beng Beng (Rocksteady And Early Reggae"). If you like what Bitty McLean did with Treasure Isle riddims on his cd "Peckings Presents... On Bond Street With The Supersonics", then this 7" single is a sure shot. In all, a great combination of foundation riddims and wonderful UK-lovers vocals.
