Overall rating : (1 to 5 stars)
Jahmali (born Ryan Thomas) is one of the finest and best voices in contemporary reggae music as he has proven over and over again since he emerged on the scene with some fine 7" singles for King Jammy, Barry O'Hare and Bobby 'Digital' Dixon, and then with the 1997 released superb debut album "El Shaddai", which he recorded for producer Donovan Germain. Unlike many of his fellow Jamaican artists Jahmali has never been very prolific. Asked about that when we met him at the Reggae Geel festival in 2006, he stated that he carefully choses the producer he wants to work with, and that's the reason why he only now and then releases a new tune. Quality above quantity so to speak.

"I Need A Girl", produced by JahJas & Maka Lox, is Jahmali's latest single and the follow up to his 2007 hit tune "Roadblock". For this brand new song he worked with great musicians such as Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, Chinna Smith Jr., Wrongmove, Sticky, sax master Dean Fraser, and well respected mixing engineer Shane Browne. And it paid off as this is a quality lovers piece, laced with mesmerizing drums by "Rockers" movie star Leroy Horsemouth and captivating horns by Dean Fraser. On top of the infectious "Right Time" riddim it's Jahmali's vocal delivery that shines bright.

This single is a real nice teaser for Jahmali's forthcoming album "One More Step", which will surely be cherished by roots lovers and his many fans.
