Former Urban Street Soul Orchestra front man Don Ricardo bursted onto the UK reggae scene in 1997 with a wonderful song called "She's Having My Baby". It was Don Ricardo's debut single and also his first smash hit as it enjoyed an unprecedented seven weeks on the no 1 position of the UK Reggae charts. Also his follow-up single "First 2 Know" - which was produced by Ruff Cutt bassist Kenton "Fish" Brown - spent five weeks at the reggae no 1 spot. Three more singles followed - "How Can I" (again produced by Kenton "Fish" Brown), the Beres Hammond produced "Bet You Don't Know" and the self-produced "On Your Mind" - and all proved equally successful. Thus singer, songwriter and producer Don Ricardo is no stranger to the UK urban music charts. And now, almost at the end of the year 2001, the versatile Don Ricardo is back with two brandnew tracks: the reggae love song "Patience" and the R'n'B cut of "First 2 Know", the latter in combination with the queen of UK hip-hop Phoebe One.
"Patience" - written and produced by Don Ricardo himself and expertly mixed by Ruff Cutt's Carlton "Bubblers" Ogilvie - is a sublime effort, thus once again fully displaying Don's great skills and talent. The quality sings out as soon as you let the arm fall. It's the voice of a great singer, the wonderful backing vocals and a tight arrangement which make "Patience" a refreshing tune one can listen to over and over again. No doubt, this is going to be Don's next smash hit!! Then "First 2 Know", actually a reworking of Don's second single. Not suited for the reggae market but a great tune anyhow. Lush vocals from Don Ricardo and Phoebe One and a wicked bassline - courtesy of Ruff Cutt's Kenton "Fish" Brown - are the main ingredients of a song which the BBC have licensed for their drama serial Babyfather.
