In 2010 Soul Jazz Records released the "Sugar Plum Plum" 12" vinyl single from 2-step/dubstep producer Kalbata. The latter, whose real name is Ariel Tagar, hails from Israel and now lives and works between Tel Aviv and London. He has has many releases to his name including remixes of the likes of London Wiley-grime collective Roll Deep, Fat Freddys Drop and US hip-hop artist Spank Rock. But of interest for reggae fans are the projects he has done with people like Courtney Melody ("Ninja Mi Ninja"), Warrior Queen ("Shooting Range") and original 1980s UK dancehall artist Clapper Priest ("Solution" and "Saxon Londinium").

Now there's a brand new 12" single from Scotch Bonnet Records entitled "Play Music Selecta EP1", which features the Remixes of Soul Jazz's "Sugar Plum Plum" release, done by Scotland's mighty Mungo's Hi Fi and RSD, perhaps better known as Bristol bass and drum music stalwart Rob Smith (one half of respected production duo Smith and Mighty). For laying down the riddim track real musicians were engaged, while the recording was done on proper analog equipment. The voicing was done in Jamaica with respected veteran dancehall artists Little John and Jah Thomas. Mungo's Hi Fi combine the (originally seperate) vocal cuts of Little John and Jah Thomas and create a worthwhile effort with a strong reference to the days when artists honed their skills in the dance halls. RSD's track with its pounding drum track and monster sub bass is a real killer, which pays homage to the likes of Jah Shaka. We're sure that this tune will blow you away when it's played in the dance on a custom-built sound equipment, and then the awesome "Sugar Plum Instrumental"... heavy!

This gorgeous 12" single has the feel of classic rub-a-dub with fat modern production! Play it loud... but be sure to warn your neighbours first!
