Indie-label "Nitty Gritty" from Cologne has released four 7" singles on the "Rudie" riddim, actually a new version of UB40's "Rudie", a tune that can be found on their "Cover Up" album. The first tune across this wicked drum&bass flavored riddim was recorded by renowned UB40 in collaboration with the German reggae pioneers Gentleman and Bantu, and mixed by Zion Train's Neil Perch. It instantly caused an international sensation in the reggae scene, and what started as a one-off German project has already developed into this season's dancehall hit in Kingston, New York and London. Thus Jamaican artists such as Beenie Man, Gregory "Cool Ruler" Isaacs and even reggae veteran Alton Ellis have also recorded their own version for the riddim. "Rudie (Hold It Down)" by Gentleman, Nigeria-born Bantu-brothers Adé & Don Abi & UB40 is an awesome dancehall tune with an unambiguous statement against any kind of violence. The song appeals to all rudeboys in this world: "Put down your weapons and stop the spiral of violence" - or as Gentleman explains: "There is another way! Put down the gun! Try to live in peace and harmony". Matching cuts are "World Peace" by the combination Beenie Man & Calibe, "Take It Easy" by Jack Radics and Alton Elis' "Over And Over". Also the other tunes have their own merits and maintain the quality standard throughout, which makes them also worth of spinning. Available worldwide, so make sure you get your copies while you can!!
