Riddim : Nyaman
Rating : (1 to 5 stars)

Here's the fourth release of 2005 from the Abassi All Stars out of Perch's Cologne studio. This brand new 10inch from 'Deep Root', a vinyl release only label, features three vocal cuts by Rwanda's Junior Kigwa (formerly known as Ranking Diddy), Empress Rasheda of London and Ethiopia and Fitta Warri of Jamaica plus a heavy, heavy dubwise version of the Abassi All Stars' "Nyaman" riddim, which follows up the "Moulding" riddim from the last 'Deep Root' release. The "Nyaman" riddim is a very slow and relaxed, but nevertheless heavy nyahbinghi stepper. Added are a nice weeping guitar and 'live horns', which are played by the Zion Train brass section. Rasheda has a sweet, mesmerizing vocal delivery which fits the riddim very well. Her "Forward Home" is a strong cultural tune, which grabs you to never let go again. Junior Kigwa proves to be a fine singer, and even though his voice isn't that exceptional his "See Them A Come" is truly worth of hearing. Gruff-voiced Fitta Warri -- whose vocal style is strongly reminiscent of Capleton -- is in real good shape. With "Never Sell My Soul" he delivers a powerful conscious deejay tune that makes a decent impression. All in all the quality of these three vocal efforts is above par. And with Abassi All Stars' excellent "Nyaman" included as well, it's obvious that this 10inch is shouldn't be overlook by any fan of modern UK roots.
