Vocalist Dakeye - born in Trinidad, real name Richard Marshall - is no newcomer in music business as he already sung and played the steel drums while growing up in Trinidad. In 1984 he moved to Houston, Texas, and formed a local reggae group called Judah Star, with whom he recorded several singles. In 1987 Dakeye moved to Los Angeles and later formed Detour Posse in 1994, which became one of the top L.A.'s backing bands for reggae stars coming out of Jamaica. Then Dakeye started a solo career, recording for producers like Sly & Robbie and Fabian Cook. In the summer of 1999 Dakeye, in association with newcomer producer and musician Kevin Brown, recorded "Ever In Love", an impressive lovers tune over Studio One's classic "Lecturer" (aka Handle The Ride) riddim, of which two versions are featured on this promotional EP single. "Take Your Time", utilizing a reworked riddim of the Melodians' Treasure Isle hit "Come On Little Girl", is an equally strong effort. In this song Dakeye, whose soulful vocal delivery is reminiscent of Mikey Spice, shines bright and fully showcases his skills and talents as a singer/songwriter. The combination with Junior P proves a winner. This singer/deejay combination works surprisingly well and both artists fully deserve the credits for delivering a wicked cultural tune. Truly noteworthy efforts from Dakeye and producer Kevin Brown aka "Spyda" KB, so let's watch for more niceness and solid deliveries in the near future.
