The new millennium has clearly shown that Reggae music knows no frontiers as artists such as Gentleman, Collie Buddz, Midnite, and Alborosie made significant international breakthroughs. And now there's another reggae act from outside Jamaica ready to put its name on the international reggae map. This brand new double A-sided 7" single strongly indicates that Italian band Franziska has nuff talent and potential to achieve international recognition. The Franziska band, currently consisting of Piero Comite (vocals, guitar), Roddy Labonte' (vocals), Ciccio Bolognesi (percussions), Alessandro Licastro (keyboards, backing vocals), Riccardo "Jeeba" Gibertini (trumpet, additional keyboards), Agu' Marson (bass), Nico Roccamo (drums), Alberto Bollettieri (t-bone, backing vocals), Marco Alberti (saxophones), and M. Chiara Fraschetta (backing vocals), recently enjoyed big success in Italy with their single "Dancehall Party".
And now there's the follow up single featuring two strong roots tunes produced by the Italian label Ragga Meridional Crew. Both "The Herb" and "Dun Wid Di Crime", the latter with a guest appearance of I Priest, make a serious impression and are predestined to become international chart toppers. "The Herb" is about the injustices suffered by the ganja smokers. The lyrics express a real desire to delete the discrimination of all the people that use ganja and urges to criminalize the use of hard drugs. "Dun Wid Di Crime" is a good combination between the two Franziska's singers, Piero Dread & Roddy a.k.a. Jah Son, and I Priest. These two tunes are also a good foretaste of what can be expected of Franziska's new album, "Action", that will include guest appearances of artists such as Freddie McGregor and Bunna (Africa Unite) to name two.
