Any reggae fan who loves the see artists bringing old skool dancehall vibes will surely enjoy this DVD. It features the original Tippa Lee and Andrew Wright backed by the Echodelic Dubchamber Soundsystem, filmed during their performance on June 30, 2004, at The Echo in Echo Park, California.
Deejay Tippa Lee is probably the better known artist as he enjoyed considerable success in the late 80s/early 90s as part of a fast rapping duo with Rappa Robert. The duo released two albums, "Roots Vibration" and "Nuh Trouble We", and as a solo artist Tippa Lee recorded a notable amount of singles for different labels including Hit Squad. Singer Andrew Wright recently released the single "Maria, Maria b/w In Style" on his 'Andrew Wright Music' label, but so far he's only established his name on a local level. Tippa Lee is familiar with performing with a Soundsystem as he honed his skills at the mic with Jamaican sounds like Lees Unlimited, Stereo One and Creation, owned by the only female sound owner in Jamaica – Mother G. Thus it's Tippa Lee who mostly leads the way in this entertaining freestyle rub-a-dub session, with Andrew Wright, who shows that he's a decent singer, in the role of follower.
After the intro - a short interview with Tippa Lee and Andrew Wright - it's showtime with the artists performing in combination stylee over classic riddims such as "Satta-Massa-Ganna", "Shank I Shek", "Solomon", "Real Rock", "Drum Song", "Throw Mi Corn", "Cuss Cuss", "Ba Ba Boom", "Stalag" and "Swing Easy", to name few. In between there's another short interview featuring the legendary engineer Scientist, who was also in the house, and guest appearances by Jah Faith and Chico Don. This DVD has no high quality sound and vision, but all in all it's fairly good. So, check it out!!
