"Every January, Tony Rebel, in celebration of his birthday, and in tribute to the memory of his close friend, Garnet Silk, stages what may soon be exclaimed as the number one reggae festival in the world. Based on a philosophy of peace and unity, Tony, the cultural ambassador of Jamaica, brings together a unique collaboration of reggae's most powerful talent and creates a legacy nothing less than a musical paradise, set to hot reggae riddims and cool vibes. The heritage of Rebel Salute is based on a no meat, no alcohol, family atmosphere and powerfully packed with entertainment that crosses the borders of young and old, vintage roots and modern dancehall." (Sista Irie).
Tony Rebel has managed to get a great line up of cultural artists for the tenth anniversary of Rebel Salute 2003. This recording captures performances by Jesse Jendau, Luciano, Buju Banton and Sizzla. A must-have dvd for any reggae fan one would say. And indeed, it would have been worthwhile purchasing if only the quality of the sound and images had not been that poor, not even counting the fact that it has been released on recordable dvd!! All performances are filmed with only one camera by someone who was part of the crowd. So, the message is... ignore it!! This is not an official dvd of the event and certainly not approved by Tony Rebel.
Note: Also available is Rebel Salute 2003 Part Two, which features the stage show of Capleton, Beres Hammond, Bob Andy and Spragga Benz. Also on a recordable dvd and same poor quality.
