After having attracted attention with her 2014 hit single "From The Heart", a love song produced by famed artist/producer Cutty Ranks for his Philip Music label, dancehall/reggae songstress Abby Dallas once again draws attention with her debut "Destined" EP, which has been produced by Andre 'Drezion" Bailey for One Jam Music.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Abby Dallas grew up in Portmore, where she attended the Bridge Port High School. At the tender age of six, Abby was exposed to music through her Church, School and Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Sponsored Events. Time and time again, she was recognized for her outstanding vocal talent by the JCDC: Most Outstanding Soloist (2005), Best Female Pop Singer (2005), Most Outstanding Junior Vocalist (2005), and winner of the 2012 Festival Song competition with "Real Born Jamaican". Abby was also awarded a scholarship to the premier music college in Jamaica, the Edna Manley College of Performing and Visual Arts, where she gained a diploma in Music Performance.
The "Destined" EP features 6 previously released singles, all if them displaying Abby Dallas' musical influences as they run the musical gamut of dancehall, reggae, pop and r&b influences. The multi-talented Abby Dallas, whose wide vocal range and versatility earned her comparisons to dancehall divas such as Lady Saw and Ce'Cile, as well as to reggae songbirds Tessanne Chin and Diana King, makes a real good impression. The first four songs, all dealing with affairs of the heart and underpinned by fresh original reggae riddims, are well worth hearing. In particular "From The Heart" - a song about being a ride or die chick for your lover and not letting anything or anyone destroy your relationship - is definitely a song you keep playing on repeat, with the matching "He's Just Not Into You", vocally and lyrically reminiscent of some of Tanya Stephens' best works, being another favourite. With the poppy "12 Months of Summer" she delivers a nice party song, while she enters dancehall territory with the decent "Bruk Out".
All in all Abby Dallas has succeeded in her effort to leave a good impression with her debut "Destined" EP. Well worth checking if you're a fan of artists such as Ce'Cile, Tanya Stephens and Lady Saw!
