Since the living legend, reggae veteran Winston Rodney aka Burning Spear recorded his debut single, "Door Peep", for the legendary Sir Coxsone Dodd on a Sunday afternoon in 1969, the Spear has become an institution in the world of reggae, delivering some of the music's finest albums including "Man In The Hills", "Marcus Garvey", "Social Living" and "Hail H.I.M.", to name a few.

On this 1997 produced and now remastered/reissued "Appointment With His Majesty" set -- nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album -- he once again showcases his unique, intense vocal style. As always, his lyrical concerns : Marcus Garvey, black culture and love for all, are expressed on several tracks on this decent album, on which the Spear experiments with a distinctly folky sound. "Appointment With His Majesty", the follow up to 1996's "Rasta Business", is a fine, heartfelt collection of tunes with "The Future (aka Clean It Up)", "Don't Sell Out", "Reggae Physician", "Glory Be To Jah" and "My Island" being the best efforts.

Laying comfortably on the well played riddims of his fine backing band with additional musicians like for example Robbie Lyn ( keyboard), Steven Stewart (keyboard), Rupert Bent (lead guitar), Howard Messam (saxophone), Barry O'Hare (keyboard) and Ian "Beezy" Coleman (rhythm & lead guitars), Burning Spear proves that he is still the "Godfather" of the conscious side of reggae music.

This special edition release contains the original cd, however with different track order, along with a bonus collectors DVD, which features previous unseen video recordings of the songs "Creation Rebel", "Foggy Road" and "Happy Day", all filmed in Europe. In addition, also included are three video interviews with Spear filmed in the USA in the 1990's available now for the first time. The images and quality of the sound of the live performances are really good and fully showcase Spear's strong stage presence and the superb backing of his live band. Also worthwhile mentioning is the beautiful designed digipak and the inclusion of the lyrics of all songs.
