This is the CD release compiling six of the eight 12"s that have been released by Berlin dub-techno duo Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus a.k.a. Rhythm & Sound under several monikers on their Basic Channel-label, about which more can be read in the article Rhythm & Sound...Jamaican hallucinations in stripped-down slowmotion. The tunes on this album have an almost ambient feel at times, as the techno riddims aren't as much on the foreground as in some of the productions on the "MCD / M-Series" released under the Maurizio moniker. This is however exciting play with sounds, it's not reggae, and yet (to me) it's dub, in only gradually changing soundscapes, probably the most minimalistic collection of their work available, even lacking the foundation of albeit a kicking dancefloor oriented drumbeat. But, it's absolutely beautiful if you are willing to let yourself be grabbed by this slowly moving hiss and other 'noises'. It's an aural trip, that is worth to be experienced fully. This album is only an absolute must have for the ones highly interested in experimental dub and soundscapes. But if you are, it is highly recommended!
