Doniki & Steady Ranks - a new vocal duo whose voices meld surprisingly well - are another proof of Jamaica's inexhaustible well of musical talents. With their debut album Come To Give Praises, Kariang Records brings us an album that incorporates sweet vocal performances seemingly effortless delivered across full-sounding countrified riddims. This steady roots oriented vocal album truly contains some moments that bring to mind the heydays of the so-called "country reggae", a type of reggae performed by artists like Justin Hinds & The Dominoes and the Twinkle Brothers who opted for a more rural lifestyle rather than being part of the hurry that is so typical for big-city life. Every single tune on this album - none to be found without a righteous theme - caresses the ear as it gets a decent treatment, vocally and musically spoken. Standout tracks are Warn Me A Warn, Hills & Valleys, No Security, Bad Fruit and the titletrack Praises.
Doniki & Steady Ranks have delivered an enjoyable album especially for those who like contemporary "roots and culture" expressed through well-crafted songs and great vocal contributions.
