One good thing about Roots music is discovery. There are countless singers, musicians, producers, engineers and promoters who have kept the pure fire of Roots Reggae alive with little exposure or chart busting anthems. Some by choice, some by consequence. The totality of St.Croix's DEZARIE is undeniable and crucial. Like a quiet storm, she has been delivering works of the Highest degree since the dawn of the millennium. This Empress has released her fifth set, "Love In Your Meditation"; an Ital affair anchored by the direction of The Most High and MIDNITE's Ron Benjamin...

DEZARIE hails from St.Croix, a bubbling pot of incredible talent ranging from Midnite, Abja, Niyorah, Army, Ras Batch and countless others. She bursted on the Roots corner with "Fya" (I Grade, 2001), a massive debut that garnered much acclaim and Atlanta's "Best New Female Artist" award the same year. She has followed up with offering of impeccable caliber. Consider "Gracious Mama Africa" (2003, Afrikan Roots Lab), "Ease The Pain" (2008, ARL) and the essential "The Fourth Book" (2010, ARL). Her natural link with Midnite is bound strong and she assisted with the formation of the stellar Rastafari label (many a Midnite classic released through it). To witness her on stage is a wondrous experience; she has the same vitality and consistency of messengers like Sister "Mother Culture" Carol. Throughout her career, she has recorded and toured with the Midnite and V.I. movement. This new album continues this unity with Midnite's RON BENJAMIN providing riddim, producing, engineering and recording this powerful meditation. Presumably, sessions took place at Midnite's Afrikan Roots Lab.

The title track is strictly Royal. On top of an ethereal Midnitesque riddim, she gracefully exalts the power of Love in all aspects. Her songwriting and arrangements are second to none; the delivery is pure Heart. Powerful work! Download De Criminal shows her diversity. In a meditative and chantfull manner, Dezarie flows with a Vaughn Benjamin ease. No carbon copy here, just the natural order of her delivery. A thunderable observation of cyber crimes and such; Ron's deadly one drop and engineering skills make this a boomshot. Worthy Was She is Roots symphony! Her sweet delivery soars above a worthy riddim detonating with crucial drum, bass and key arrangement. Rich in every aspect. Not Who We Are To Be continues the Royal touch. Requires repeated listening due to the absolute wisdom and structure. This is Heart and Soul food seasoned to perfection. African Heart Lionheart is Roots anthemwise. A reminder to never forget where you came from, it's niced up by Ron's licks and kicks and ascending bass work. Flow a flow!

Return To Sender is a solid skanker showing the mastery of both Dezarie and Ron Benjamin. Like a Lioness, Dezarie prows over the music scape in pure stride. Pure meditation all the way! Strong is versatility. Assisted by grand piano and subtle percussion, Hope and inspiration is delivered from the mountain top. Dezarie has inflected Jazz and other genres in previous albums and this ballad is a great example of her grasp of real music theory. Keep Praising Jah is a bubbling fountain from the mountain. This track is a classic definition of Real Roots Reggae in every way. How Great Thou Art is a manifestation of her development as an artiste. She gives utmost praises to The Most High and her voice is so golden. A glittering piece of Jah art. Constructing Deconstruction is pure lyrics to riddim. There's nuances of Midnite here and the atmosphere is sky high. She delivers in a fine chanting style and powerfully portrays the state of today's affairs. This is a Roots messenger who observes and cultivates that in a very spiritual way. Pure education to the mind's eye! Living Ones is hypnotic to the core with intelligent delivery and impeccable riddim.

DEZARIE's "Love In Your Meditation" is another instant classic! This artiste doesn't claim fame or follow fashion. The magnitude of her work is simply amazing. It's safe to say she trods Creation in a humble manner spreading Jah works without the need to be in the spotlight. This Empress is solidly carrying the Fyah of King's Music to higher heights in a dignified and respectful way. If you haven't heard of DEZARIE, this album will instantly grab your full attention for a long while and prompt you to seek out her entire body of work. Solid through and through. Highest recommendation!! GO DEH!!
