Black Ice aka Gary Palmer, is an up and coming artist in the reggae and hip-hop world. He's committed to helping bring reggae and hip-hop to new heights. He has shared the billing with some of music biggest stars like Wyclef, Born Jamericans, Busta Ryhmes, Mad Lion, Red Rat, Pato Banton, Luciano, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Gregory Isaacs and the combination Tanto Metro & Devonte.
Three years in the making, his promising debut set "Deliver Me" is ready for release at the end of April 2003. This album is filled with some 18 songs, spanning a wide variety of styles, from Reggae to Dancehall to Lovers Rock to R & B crossover. Black Ice's debut set was blessed with additional vocals from Junior P, Rootsman, Dakeye and Arrows recording artist Djahana. Black Ice is blessed with a fine voice, his vocal delivery seems timeless with a kind of vibe one wouldn't expect to hear on a debut album! We would like to call this set a roots'n'culture album, with some really outstanding lovers tune such as the catchy Careless Whisper (not the George Michael tune!). Close To My Heart is one of our favorite lover's tunes here. Also worth mentioning is the hip hop / r'n'b flavored tune I'm In Love, a reworking of the Teddy Pendergrass original. Junior P teams up with Black Ice and their lover's tune Nubian is a decent dancehall tune. Junior P also lends vocals, together with Bumpa Green, on Works Of The Almighty a solid praising song, based upon a Treasure Isle tune. Rootsman and Black Ice deliver a boom tune called Enemies a song that grabbed us instantly. Don't forget to check out the compelling acapella version! Reflecting his strong morals and beliefs, Black Ice’s lyrics bring a positive, real and conscious message to his listeners. The song Deliver Me is definitely a 'must-hear' tune, especially for those who experience hard times. More highlights here are Who Jah Bless and the Studio One based song Mt.Zion. Black Ice had sollicited the talents of such producers and engineers as Spyda KB of CanJa Sounds, DJ Alywad, and Lynford "Fata" Marshall of Mixing Lab for his strong debut project.
Debut sets are usually hard to review, this one's not..it's an excellent well balanced album. More than promising !
