The nine piece band Little Tempo consists of Takeshi "Tico" Toki : Steel Pan, Seiji Big Bird : Bass, Ikuma Sasaki : Guitars, Hakase : Keyboards, Takahiro Haruno : Sax, Clarinet, Gen Tamura : Steelpan, Pedal steel, Koji Oishi : Drums, Kenta Tajika : Percussions and Naoyuki Uchida : Dub Mix. Starting 1in 1992, the band has released 5 albums in their homeland Japan and they have built up a massive reputation over numberous releases. In Japan they are signed to a major label (JVC / Victor) and sell at least 30,000 copies per release!
This album is the first Little Tempo release outside Japan, released by Ryan Moore of Twilight Circus Dub Sound System on his M Records label. The music of Little Tempo is a brilliant fusion of dub, reggae, world and jazz elements - like Sun Ra meets King Tubby. The album is recorded & mixed At Space Velio, Tokyo. The music is definitely original, sometimes updating 50's music and rootical tunes, alle embedded in a magnificent tangle of creativity and a deep and stupefying bass line. It's not fair to point out highlights or weak tracks here, each title has its own soul and personality. Don't be fooled by the 'aggressive' sleeve art, the music is pure pleasure for the body and soul.
