When vinyl was the order of the day album releases contained about ten tracks due to the limited playing time of a vinyl disc. With the arrival and success of the compact disc it was possible to put more than twenty tunes on a disc (of course depending on the length of the tracks). Great for samplers, but in many cases not for artist albums as producers, artists and/or record companies far too often include tunes that would have been left out on a vinyl album simply because they don't match a certain quality standard. Thus too many artist albums lack quality throughout and suffer from the inclusion of fillers. However this is not the case with Lutan Fyah's "Healthy Lifestyle" which comes hard on the heels of his recent "Phantom War" set for Greensleeves Records. Respected producer Phillip 'Fatis' Burrell of Xterminator Productions has limited this album to eleven tracks, something he has done before with albums like for example Gregory Isaacs' "Do Lord", Cocoa Tea's "One Way", Fred Locks' "Never Give Up" and Sizzla's "Praise Ye Jah". It fully shows that this veteran producer goes for quality and not quantity! The collaboration with such a producer is just perfect at this stage of Lutan Fyah's musical career as he is finally achieving a breakthrough to an international audience after years of hard work. His album releases so far showed the singjay's potential but somehow lacked consistency or quality to leave a serious impression from beginning to end. This is no issue for this "Healthy Lifestyle" release. It's a strong, well balanced album finding Lutan Fyah in real good shape accompanied by the cream of Jamaican musicians including Donald Dennis, Dean Fraser, Chris Meredith, Melbourne Miller, Kirk Bennett, the legendary Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. "Healthy Lifestyle" features songs of wisdom, faith and Rasta love including standouts such as "Recompence", the previous single "Rough A Yard", the uplifting "You Can Do It", "No More Suffering", "Children Are Mine", the horns emblazoned "Hound Dog", "Natural Herbs" and the typically heavy and definitive Xterminator roots workout "Thief In The Garden". With this album (and its predecessor "Phantom War") Lutan Fyah has definitely shown he's a leader among the new generation of Jamaican artists.
