Already Germany's newcomer of the year in 2004's poll of Germany's riddim-reggaemagazine without an official solo release under his belt, just known for the wonderful "Wunderlampe" on Silly Walks' "Songs Of Melody", then impressing 18 months ago with his first EP "Rainbow Warrior" and later last year with the equally impressive (song taken from the soundtrack for the German big screen movie picture by Peter Thorwarth "Goldene Zeiten") "The One" and just a couple of months ago with "Are You Really Waiting" , Martin Jondo, Berlin resident, son of a German father and a Korean mother, who rose to a certain fame (at least in Germany) through his appearance as support act on Gentleman and Mellow Mark tours, and his guestspot alongside Tamika on Gentleman's "Live" for the song "Rainy Days", has now released a fourth single on Homeground Records from his excellent album "Echo & Smoke". Produced like "Rainbow Warrior" and "The One" by the Berlin based - originally rap-producer, also involved in Mellow Mark's releases -, Kraans de Lutin, who co-writes most of Martin Jondo's songs. Opening this EP is "Jah Gringo (Single Version)" followed by the "Jah Gringo (Album Edit)", both 'full band' versions of the conscious tune that was in its acoustic version included on the "Are You Really Waiting"-EP, and this version has Martin Jondo sounding as much as Patrice as the acoustic version did, and that's a big compliment for both. A fourth version of Jah Gringo (the third on this EP) for which Culcha Candela producer Krutsch is responsible "Jah Gringo (Krutsch Remix)" is featuring the nicely fitting rap of Don Cali. "Just The Other Day (Tiger Hifi Dub)" is a very nice dub reworking of the superb "Echo & Smoke" tune about having his ex-lover calling while being with his new lady as a prisoner of her love and his first solo release is featured in the nice "Rainbow Warrior (Seoul Mix)" before this amazing EP is closed with the clean "Jah Gringo (Instrumental)". Whether you have or don't have any of his earlier releases, one thing's for sure, anyone who has seen Martin Jondo live on stage or is fond of Patrice's (reggae) tunes knows why, otherwise if you love good songwriting, great singing and good riddims, you must get this and the other Martin Jondo releases. Very impressive again!
