Carl Gayle - Iyah Carl - Carl I - Jahug - is of course more well known as a Reggae scribe, a journalist than a singer of songs, a songwriter or producer.

This set is his second album - the first being the excellent set released under the name of Carl I 'Keep My Fire Burnin' also on Jahug. The work that was started on that album continues here. Carl is an excellent songwriter, but what is important about this album is the vocal style - The Sing Talk. Not to be confused with the Singjay style from people like Eek A Mouse.

Sing Talk goes back into time. Keith Hudson was a very good artist in the Sing Talk style. It's a form of expression that allows an artist to say what is needed to be said without worrying too much about if it rhymes or sounds good. The production on the album was all done in London by Carl - with some great musicians like Inyaki - and talented youth like Paolo on drum and Drax Darby on guitar. The mix comes from Darren Jamtone.

It's a magnificent work. A new step forward in Reggae music - just like deejay and dub - both genres were fought against at the time. Don't fight against this one!
