Sherwin Gardner comes up with his debut set -Leaning- on the Christian Reggae Dancehall label 'Lion of Zion'. The label specializes in releasing contemporary reggae and dancehall albums, bringing a unique brand of gospel reggae to nearly every state and some twenty countries around the world.
Born and raised in Arima, Trinidad, Sherwin Gardner began singing at a young age and quickly learned to integrate his faith with the contemporary music of his Caribbean island. A bestseller in Trinidad and Tobago, Sherwin is by far the most proficient and versatile deejay/vocalists in the Caribbean gospel arena. His style reminds us somehow of the great Junior Kelly, although others think his vocal delivery is more Sizzla influenced.
The album is a coherent collection of songs, produced by Sherwin himself for Lion of Judah Sounds. The result is a uniquely woven tapestry of various urban sounds and Caribbean cultures with no-compromise lyrics and sound doctrine. On some tunes presented here he teams up with other artists. On Time And Time he and Monty G deliver an heartfelt ballad you should definitely check out! Clean Up Your Heart is a duet with Mr. Lynx, while on the R&B flavored title track he gets accompanied by Monty G and Jadee. Jadee, Christafari and The Love Circle join him on All day Long, a decent mid tempo tune. I Worship You is his rendition of the classic Mr.Fix It riddim and he really does a nice job on this one! On Obstacles he tackles another classic riddim, the popular Stalag riddim. You're All I Need is a truly appealing r&b tune, just like Never Let You Go, a tune with underlying soul-jazz and hip hop influences.
Each song includes a signature style and sound that is undeniably Caribbean and unquestionably Sherwin. The variety of styles he offers (soca is included as well) will certainly appeal to a lot of music fans. Together with his excellent vocal delivery and the exquisite arrangements this is a set you should not pass by !
