Born in New York, Morgan Heritage consists of five of the 29 children of Denroy Morgan, former lead vocalist of the Black Eagles - lead vocalists Una, Peter, Gramps, (who also plays the keyboards), rhythm guitarist Lukes and percussionist Mr. Mojo.
The band is extremely popular for it's unique style by blending modern production values with upful message tunes. Their quality album "Protect us Jah" for producer Bobby "Digital" Dixon was one of the most-talked about reggae best-sellers, while the follow up "One Calling" got rave reviews. Their recent studio album "Don't Haffi Dread" is a piece of beautifully arranged music and sublime songwriting, an irresistible set of easy skanking riddims. Furthermore the band has put out a two excellent one-riddim albums : "Morgan Heritage Family & Friends Vol. 1" and "Morgan Heritage Family & Friends Vol. 2".
As part of their European tour Morgan Heritage, alongside L.M.S. and their father Denroy Morgan, came to Belgium on March 4, where they performed at Ancienne Belgique in the capital Brussels. The album opens with a nyabinghi and chant tribute to Jah, followed by a stunning greatest hits selection that grabs the listener and keeps you involved from beginning to end. The band as a whole makes a more than solid impression and combined with Peter Morgan's vocal qualities it results in a highly spiritual, musical and physical happening that I've only experienced many years ago at a Dennis Brown show.
This is an essential live album !
