The album "Now And Then" by Jahmel features the 1983 album "Watchful Eyes' and a handful of recently recorded tracks. Jahmel was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and migrated to the USA at a young age. There he was discovered by his producer, Royale Anderson while performing in a dance hall in Rochester, New York. They went back to Jamaica to record his first LP, "Watchful Eyes". The original Wailers Band, featuring the Barrett brothers, Family Man on bass and Carlie on drums, backed this set. The album did fairly well in Europe, but the lack of promotion hurt the sales and cheated reggae purists from hearing a masterpiece.

Hearing the songs from that album makes one wonder why Jahmel never achieved the recognition he deserves. The mixture of songs of love and culture are some of the best pre-digital era cuts we've heard. The backing is solid throughout and combines quite well with the fragile vocal delivery of Jahmel. On his recent productions you'll hear a more mature voiced vocalist who delivers top-notch quality songs of passion and righteousness. Outstanding tracks on the album are Watchful Eyes, Stand Alone, Lion's Den, Give Jah The Glory and Suffer's Song.

Don't ignore this one!
