Although already a veteran in music business and having released several singles and albums singer/melodica player Floyd Lloyd Seivright still belongs to the category of the lesser known artists. With "Our World" - which could have been subtitled "The Best Of..." - Floyd Lloyd delivers a sophisticated album filled with lots of easygoing, flowing reggae, rock steady, soul and ska. It showcases the genius of the many-sided Floyd Lloyd to master all these styles. Vocal as well as instrumental tracks are included and although covers like Van Morrison's Moondance and the Everly Brothers' sixties hit Let It Be Me" are part of this compilation set the originals predominate. All tracks are recorded with some of the best musicians around playing real instruments. Floyd Lloyd gets strong musical support from players like Mikey Chung, Rico Rodriguez, Larry McDonald, Sky Juice, Derrick Stewart and guitar virtuoso Ernest Ranglin. No doubt credits can go to the latter for some fine jazz-flavored rocksteady and reggae riddims that can be captured on this album.
Anyone who wants to get a good impression of Floyd Lloyd's undisputable skill and talents should check out this double-CD.
