"Power Reggae Part 1 ~ Love Not War" is a six track mini-album (a bonus track can be downloaded at www.powerreggae.com) from an Afro-Caribbean reggae collective based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, called New Born Creation. The band was formed and blended when the first members came together through Jah guidance in 1992, but it lasted until the end of 1994 that the purchase of a drumkit, guitars and amps, marked the official start of the band. Gradually others found their way to New Born Creation. Coming from different (musical) backgrounds and influenced by different styles of music, the sound of the band was enriched with flavors of Rock, Jazz, Latin and Gospel. From the very first start New Born Creation has written its own lyrics which are characterized by a powerful spiritual statement and are closely related to the Holy Scripture. Their lyrics express opinions about our society, the people and their relationship to God. The music of New Born Creation can best be described as contemporary up-tempo beats combined with roots rock reggae riddims. All this can be experienced while listening to their solid "Power Reggae Part 1 ~ Love Not War" set, actually a very enjoyable and solid modern roots set due to the all-live instrumentation, the fine musical arrangements, the lyrical delivery and decent vocal performances. Best tracks are "All that Glitters Ain't Gold" and our favourite piece "Find A Way", the latter a tune of sheer beauty incorporating very entertaining saxophone parts from Inge Sax and the wonderful voice of female singer Urmie. Two nice dub versions round off a mini-album that is well worth hearing. With "Power Reggae Part 1 ~ Love Not War" New Born Creation have proven to be a name to watch in the near future when it comes to well executed modern roots rock reggae.
