Leroy 'Heptones' Sibbles is one of the true giants of reggae music. His glorious career spans over more than three decades and includes some of the milestones of the development of reggae music. First and foremost he's famous for working with the legendary rocksteady group The Heptones. They were one of the most prolific and influential vocal groups of the late 60s and early 70s, recording a string of timeless hits for an array of producers. Another milestone in Leroy's career was his time he spent at Coxsone's Studio One as a session bass player, arranger and producer. There he was responsable for building some of Studio One's most enduring riddims.
This more than excellent sampler contains nuff nuff classic Leroy Sibbles tracks off some of his previous recordings. Included here are tunes he recorded in the mid 70s as a member of The Heptones for (co)producer Danny Holloway - Mama Say, Country Boy and Deceivers. Next to a few tunes with a digital "digital" backing, most of the tracks on the album were recorded in the first half of the 80s and include re-workings of some original Heptones hits across solid Studio One riddims. His smooth vocal delivery in combination with some of the best reggae musicians in the business, inclusing such household names as Sly and Robbie, The Roots Radics, Dean Fraser, Carlton Barrett, Steely, Danny Brownie and Marcia Griffiths will provide any listener, wether he likes reggea or not, with an hour of pure musical entertainement. Wonderful !
