Finally Coxsonne Dodd has put out the classic 'Rocking Time' set on compact disc. This early '70s anthem still sounds as convincing and strong as it did some 25 years ago. "Rocking Time' is raw, undilluted pure roots reggae from the man who's still recording and touring. Whatever people might say about Coxsonne Dodd's treatment of his artists, there were not many producers who would have spent time and money on such seemingly uncommercial material as this album (or the equally sublime "Presenting"). Only the popular 'Joe Frazier' (aka 'He Prayed') made the Jamaican Top 5 in 1972. Later in his career Burning Spear re-recorded several of this album's tracks. The versions on this album are to be prefered because of the magic of the Studio One riddims combined with Burning Spear's lyrics and his chanting like delivery. An essential historical and musical document !
