U.K.-based Dub Funk Association consists of Russell (Disciples) Brown, Part 2, Trevor (Technician) McKenzie, Dave Hendry, Daniel (The Interrupttor) Bosshard and Kelvin.R. Their music combines elements from different kind of music styles which are, more or less, related to each other. Their approach enables them to create a sound that is refreshing and adventurous and definitely has a hypnotic ambiance. DFA is created in 1991 by Kelvin R and is "a collective not bound by any shape or form, where musicians come together under the umbrella of DFA to embrace the concept of 'Dub Funk' - the bringing together of Reggae, Dub, Jazz, Breakbeat and Hip-Hop."
Sounds Of The Heavyweight is the follow up to their 'Confrontation Of Dub' album of last year and contains twelve tracks, ranging from more or less 'traditional' dub tracks such as the excellent Rockers Specialist, Trod Along Dub and Family Affair to experimental soundscapes like Dub In The Arena, Heavyweight Sound and Enter The Chuzzler. Throughout the album DFA manages to create a very mesmerizing sound, always with a distinctive groove, heavy phat bass and lots of vocal echoes dropping in and out the King Tubby like mix.
Sounds Of The Heavyweight is a set for all heavyweight dub addicts !
