In the 70's George Nooks started out as the deejay Prince Mohammed, voicing numerous hit tunes for producer Joe Gibbs, with one of his biggest hits being "Forty Leg Inna Mi Head". In the eighties he kept a low profile and in the early nineties he resurfaced as the singer George Nooks, scoring with the top ten hit "I Don't Care".
His distinctive, mellow voice and smooth styling is cut out for a traditional lover's rock groove. On this current album he teams up with several renown producers such as Lloyd Campbell, Computer Paul, Spragga Roots, Jack Scorpio, John John, Winston 'Wee Pow' Powell, General Lee and Norman 'Bull Puss' Bryan. The title track God Is Standing By enjoyed considerable chart success. The album features some previously released singles like So Much Love, Homely Girl, The Way You Are, Real Love, Penny Wise, Be My Lady and Tailor Made. Although most tracks are decent lovers tunes, he also puts out some impressive reality tunes like Mr. Pop It Off. The noteworthy Take 5 is across Dennis Brown's 'My Time' riddim and Over And Over rides the 'Cherry Oh Baby' riddim. Even the Billy Joel cover The Way You Are is an outstanding piece of music.
A truly recommendable set !
