Marco Rais Abin aka Tóke, a half Indonesian, half German reggae singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who named himself after the gecko from his birth country Indonesia, released two singles, "Too Much" and "Woman Of Mine", before 2014 saw the release of his debut EP entitled "Troddin' With A Vision" (early 2016 reissued by Boomrush Productions). In early 2015 his love for reggae music brought him to Jamaica for the first time, where he met Mikey Tuff (riddim builder and co-founder of Bassplate Records) during his long and very productive stay on the island, that brought inspiration and creativity. It was there and then that the idea of producing an album emerged.

"Wake Up Inna Kingston", the follow up to Tóke's EP "Troddin' With A Vision", is the first studio album produced by Italian Bassplate Records and they truly put a lot of time and effort in it to ensure that this album had first class stamped all over it. Just take a look at the incredible accompanying booklet. It not only features credits and the lyrics of every song, the beautiful artwork - created by Simonluca Spadanuda of Urbanmagic - is composed by nine different original illustrations representing the philosophy of the album and its songs. Also sonically this release makes a very good impression as the sound is crisp and clear. The riddims created for this release are built with the combined use of real instruments, vintage outboards and plugins, in order to get that warm analog sound from the past.

Recorded in Bologna, Italy at Studio61 by Adriano Ippolito (label co-founder & sound engineer), "Wake Up Inna Kingston" fully showcases Tóke's talent and skills as a vocalist and songwriter and features large contributions from Jamaican artists Conkarah, Infinite, and Exile the Brave and the Indonesian reggae ambassador Ras Muhamad, who delivered a convincing debut album entitled "Salam" in 2014. The compelling "Frizzle", a storytelling about the music and daily living in Kingston, is a fully satisfying effort underpinned by an appealing riddim with great horn parts. A wicked opener, which is followed by the matching "Conscious Vibe" on a backdrop that somehow reminds us of certain riddims from around 1984 (think Shinehead's "Billie Jean/Mama Used To Say"). With the decent "No One" Tóke touches intimate self thoughs and the same goes for the solid "Talkin' Bout You" and the delightful "Running Away". On the other hand Tóke also brings in social commentaries with the combination tunes "Respect" with Conkarah and the infectious "Open The World" with Ras Muhamad. Solely accompanied by his acoustic guitar, "Movements" let's Tóke's voice come to full expression. The dancehall fueled bonus track "Mi Name" with its old skool vibe rounds off in a real nice way.

Both Tóke and Bassplate Records have created an album that certainly will bring Tóke to the attention of the ever avid reggae massive. Well done!!!
