Stephen "Cat" Coore founded Third World in 1973 after having played with Inner Circle for 6 years. Cat Coore is a multi-instrumentalist, who introduced the cello in reggae music and enjoyed international success with Third World, releasing notable albums such as "96 Degrees In The Shade" and 'Journey To Addis'. He also recorded with many namebrand artists like Stevie Wonder, Bunny Wailer, Cindy Lauper, Maxi Priest, Michael Rose, Sly & Robbie and Shabba Ranks. In 1996 he worked on a solo project entitled, "Uptown Rebel", which is released by the French reggae label Tabou1. As a member of Third World Cat Coore played an important role in creating and developing the sound of this group which can be characterized as a blend of sophisticated reggae and sweet soul, sometimes indicated as "uptown reggae". Cat Coore's solo album has very much the same approach which makes it accessible for a broad audience. Well played instrumentals, fine vocal deliveries as well as a couple of deejay pieces are presented in an earcaressing style. Not an essential one, but a thoroughly enjoyable solo effort from a very gifted and versatile artist, who continues to deliver "roots with quality".
