The legendary Vernon Maytone is back again with an earnest and organic new offering, "On The Right Track". This Foundation artist, either as part of The Maytones or a solo artist, has been delivering honest greatness for five decades now. In the last few years, he has delivered a slew of killer albums, compilations and singles that are of the highest grade. Vernon Maytone is tenacity, endurance and observation...
"On The Right Track" sounds like it was recorded the way albums should be; total commitment from the artist, musicians and engineers. The bulk of the musicianmanship is ably delivered by France's Uniteam Allstars (big up). There is great contribution from legendary bassie Fully Fullwood, keyboardist Mighty Erbe and gitsy Colin Webster. Daddy U Roy lends a hand as does saxman Everton Gayle. Vernons's link with Not Easy At All Production's Manu Genius proves absolute here with expert engineering at Manu's Dubshelter Studio (Amsterdam). Vernon voiced these mighty riddims at his Buckley's Recording Studio (Canada). Very much an international affair with incredible results. Why Lord opens up the excitement with style and fashion. Over the "Real Rock" riddim, Vernon earnestly pleads how the system is so rough. His delivery is so truthful and convincing; it draws you in. Manu's dubby treatment adds serious dimension. The title track is a killer. An organic riddim is delivered to perfection - bringing back memories of the early 1980's. A joyous and proud song of praises; you can't help but skank to this one (great riddim guitar and piano).
Greedy Jones features the mastery of Fully Fullwood and fellow keyboardist Gitsy. We are taken back to Maytones glory in every sense. A gritty story of greed as told by Mr. Buckley. The engineering and mix is impeccable and captures true "yard style". The late Prince Jazzbo classes up Greedy Babylon that features the previous riddim. The "Croaking Lizard" delivers in such a fine style; it's like he lived this story just yesterday and had to tell Creation. GREAT TRACK!!! Gonna Make It is ruff and tuff. A song of strength that Vernon has done some time ago. This is a serious anthem that will inspire anyone's dark day. Wicked organic riddim and mix on this yah one. Ricky Chaplin offers a nice edge on Straight To The Top. He versions the previous song with edge inna wicked style. This is a Sound System special that goes for miles. Nuff raspect Mr. Chaplin!!
Side B continues in magical fashion. Foreign Life is a reality track of the highest degree. Telling true stories of misconception and rumours; this is intelligent observation! Props to The Uniteam Allstars for a seriously solid riddim. Ricky Chaplin shows up hard again on A Nuh Bed Rose. This talented deejay rides the previous riddim with authority and a rugged U Roy approach. Instant rewinda!!! Turn Up The Sound continues this beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Everton Gayle adds some great sax to this early Dancehall style. Vernon is so versatile and he's comfortable in making you do the "shoulder move" and the "cool and deadly". Rub a Dub session here fe sure.
I'm In Love is special! Vernon offers up his Heart and Soul in wicked style. One of the smoothest Lover's songs he's put out in a while. The riddim is tailor fit for his slight nuances and vibrations. Boomshot track. This A Love features the fyah of Lady Ann (well wicked). Over the previous riddim, she comes hard and real. There's no falseness or pretense in her style and complements this album well. This gem closes out with Back To The Earth. A totally ites song here; with a real observation and plea to live from what The Most High has already put on Earth and to put down artificial thinking. This song oozes pure perfection and is a testament to this Foundation artist.
We have come to expect the best from Vernon Maytone and he delivers EVERYTIME! "On The Right Track" ranks as one of his best (they are all his best). This release is highly recommended to ALL Reggae Music fans. Do not delay; you need this nourishing musical food - you'll be wanting seconds and thirds. GO DEH!!!!!!!
