Oba Simba (real name David Wilson) first came to the attention of an international audience when he started to voice for Special Delivery Music. For this French label the Jamaican singer, who was born in December 1971 in Heartease, St. Thomas and grew up in Allman Town, central Kingston, recorded several worthy songs on hit riddims such as "Dis Ya Time aka Operation Radication", "Judgement Time", "Je t'aime", and "Visions". With every single he has released so far Oba Simba -- meaning King of the Lions -- has shown that he posesses an appealing crisp sounding voice and that he's able to write mind-stimulating lyrics.

The digital EP entitled "Whistling Bird" collects four tracks produced by Special Delivery Music's production duo Jay Pee Greve and Pierre Bost of Bost & Bim. It kicks off in fine style with "Hanky Panky" across a wicked relick of the "Dis Ya Time" riddim. The title track "Whistling Bird" is a great effort over an adaptation of Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg's "Je t'aime" riddim. It's followed by "Reminiscing", a solid lovers song on the "Visions" riddim. The EP is rounded off with a previously unreleased track on the "Sugar" riddim. The latter is a great one drop riddim that instantly grabs you and Oba Simba's ganja tune, "This Herb", simply sounds wonderful. Wicked tune!

All in all this is a decent forerunner for Oba Simba's forthcoming full length debut album.
