One of German's finest reggae labels, Oneness Records starts 2011 with the release of a 'one riddim' set called 'Backstabber' riddim. Last year the label did well with the release of the well received 'Soul' riddim, but their tour de force was the album by Naptali, called 'Long Journey'.

The 'Backstabber' riddim is a well crafted, retro-styled 'one drop' riddim, but with a solid contemporary feel to it. The abundant organ intro reminds us of the early Lee Perry productions. Lyrically the 10 tunes remain close to the 'Backstabber' theme, which results in strong rootical songs. The production credits go to The Next Generation Family around Fyah T. Good job!

The aforementioned Naptali delivers a very strong effort here. His tune Deceitful could well become an instant classic. This singer deserves a wider audience. Do check him out! Lutan Fyah doesn't disappoint with his song Stop. Rootsman Turbulence is in good shape here and his effort is above average. The combination Prezident Brown and Raymond Wright might sound strange at first hear, but after a spin or two we enjoyed their tune Backstabbing a lot.

Jah Marnyah hails from the beautiful island of Montserrat. He joins this selection with his tune Be Careful, a pleasant surprise from this rather unknown singer. Good tune! Queen Omega never lets you down when it comes to delivering a strong rootical tune. Take Control is one of the top songs here. The only German contribution comes from Bavaria based artist Da Brenner with Zuviel Vorgenommen. Mark Wonder makes no mistake with his top tune Divine Livity.

Excellent selection!
