Joe Gibbs (born Joel Gibson in Montego Bay 1945) undoubtedly belongs to the cream of the crop when it comes to talking about successful producers in the history of Jamaican music. He produced international hits for Nicky Thomas, Dennis Brown and of course Althea & Donna, but besides that the man's influence on the sound of Jamaican music - especially in the '60s and '70s - has been profound. The material gathered on this fine album provides a good glimpse into his early production work and some of the tracks represent the best of Joe Gibb's output from the rocksteady era. Musical accompaniment for the Joe Gibbs' recordings throughout this period was provided primarly by the excellent session group, Lyn Taitt & The Jets, of whom a number of nice instrumentals are included as well. This compilation CD contains nearly 70 minutes rocksteady niceness from the vaults and is certainly an essential release for collectors of (almost) forgotten oldies but goodies !
