Since the start of the new millennium reggae music emanating from the Virgin Islands has developed a large following within communities all over the world. In particular Midnite, but also artists like Dezarie, Pressure, Army and Bambú Station have delivered worthy full length roots albums, which rightly caught the attention of an international audience. The wealth of musical talent on the Virgin Islands (especially St. Croix) is astonishing and reminiscent of the heydays of Jamaican roots reggae era in the seventies. This is once again showcased on this compilation set entitled "Itinualjah". Ras L, who also did a collaboration with Midnite for the 2004 released album "Full Cup", produced the bulk of this powerful album featuring up and coming chanters and singers from St. Croix. Apart from Midnite, you won't find a very well known name on the roll call. From Ras Calle's fresh sounding album opener "Altogether", a tune with an intelligent and original sound, up to Little Judgement's "The People", which rounds off this set in very fine style, the listener is treated to a predominantly solid collection of tunes underpinned by intense and heavy riddims. Not every track is a strong effort (that would really be exceptional) , but nevertheless there are quite a few that deserve a 'five star' rating. These include the aforementioned "Altogether" by Ras Calle, Midnite's "Sang Real", Lava's "Won" Mosiah's amazing "1st Uv De Hebrews" and "Greedy". Bear in mind the names of Ras Calle, Mosiah and Lava, because they truly show potential and can be considered as the ones that are able to achieve wider recognition.
