No other producer in Jamaica can ever claim the legacy or challenge the supremacy of Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One label. For over 50 years until his recent death, Dodd ruled over the Jamaican music scene by the very force of his personality, and by the breadth of his musical accomplishments.

This is Heartbeat's third expanded and remastered album from the "Best Of Studio One" series, originally unleashed in the 1980s. Whilst the first two -- "The Best Of Studio One" and "Full Up: More Hits From Studio One" -- brought us singer and deejay tunes, this third volume focuses exclusively on instrumentals. "Downbeat The Ruler: Killer Instrumentals From Studio One" is packed phat with those instrumentals, or perhaps it's better to speak of riddims, that galvanized the public, and brought the label to the top of its popularity and with six added bonus tracks as well! That makes it an essential collection of some of the most well known, and much versioned, instrumental riddims.

Other producers, unable to compete against this onslaught, began to copy these instrumentals for their own usage and a new profession was born, the copy-cat. But here on this release anyone can hear the original versions that made it all happen. The top sounds by the top bands at Studio One (mostly formed by the same musicians): Soul Vendors, Sound Dimension, Soul Defenders, The Invaders and Brentford All Stars.

Filled with eighteen solid to excellent tracks which mainly date from the reggae era into the roots age, this is truly musical murder. Included are heavy scorchers like Rockfort Rock, Real Rock (Stone Love recently put out a one riddim album versioning this riddim to the max!), Swing Easy, Throw Me Corn, Mojo Rock Steady and Death In The Arena, all well known to the ears of the reggae fan, whether he's young or old, and a delight to hear them in digital clarity.

Enjoy it to the fullest... Selector fling me the riddim!!
