Having noticed the current rise of soca influences in the dancehall, and the popularity of soca at German dances, it is of course no wonder that the reverse influence of Jamaican dancehall would at one time or another lead to a soca release in VP's Riddim Driven series. And although I am 'just another listener' even more when it comes to soca than to reggae/dancehall, only keeping up to date by buying annually VP Records Soca Gold release, I am definitely loving this 'Mamacita'-riddim. Taking its affectionate 'mamma'-name from rising Trinidadian artist Dawg E Slaughter's take "Darling (Mamacita Wine)", this is gonna make the crowds moving. Nice DJ tune by Maximus Dan as well, with his when the enemies "Surround You" before the singers take over on this riddim. The R&B delivery of H2O Philo - who contributes the background vocals on a lot of the other tunes on the riddim - "Got To Know", Bud on "My Everything" and the girl who bust big alongside Sean Paul doing "I'm Still In Love" Sasha on "Dance For Me" all provide maximum feel good pleasure. "darling I want a piece of that "Heaven" is a fine combination by Ghetto Flex & Kess, and so is the tune by Claudette Peters interacting with Chello's DJing on urging "Do It Like That" before 3 Suns, who recently released the full length album "Definitely" with their unique blend of hip-hop, R&B and dancehall in their soca do their "Midnight Princess". Ginger's "Do It To Me" shows her as soca's CÚ'Cile, a very fine female DJing tune, before the sweet singer Cupid alongside Jason DJing delivers the wonderful lovers plea "In My World". Pilot tells how it's all about "Is Money" in a big bashment brandname calling DJ tune. Overall very catchy hooklines on this irresistable soca riddim, showcased by the "Mamacita Mega Mix" by Madd Flava's mixing engineer DJ Kevy Kev during 24(!) minutes. It's even better that after that we're treated to the clean version of the 'Mamacita'-riddim, before we finally can give our feet a rest.
