The latest installment of VP Records' "Selector's Choice" Series brings you the champion sound of "the Far East Ruler" Mighty Crown with a tribute to one of the most consistently successful producers from the first half of the eighties. This CD only release features 23 great titles from the late Henry "Junjo" Lawes - besides producer also owner and proprietor of the legendary Volcano sound system and record label that carried the swing back in those early eighties Dancehall days - presented in a "mix-tape" stylee with a running time of almost 44 minutes.
The Mighty Crown sound system has established its name among Dancehall fans and tape collectors worldwide since their first appearance at the World Clash í99 (an International sound system competition) where they took the first prize. Mighty Crown was the first Japanese sound to ever win the World Clash competition and has since remained the world's renowned "Far East Ruler" of Dancehall Reggae. Many classic hit songs delivered by some of Jamaica's top talent from Reggae music's history can be enjoyed while playing this entertaining set. Although sounds in action often play small parts of a tune, the tracks on this CD get a fair playing time. Furthermore the music is given enough room to leap from the speakers, actually it lasts until track 15 before the MC really starts to do his thing.
Mighty Crown's tribute to Henry "Junjo" Lawes is a nice "mix-tape" style CD for lovers of vintage Dancehall!
