The upfull and heartfelt "New Day" riddim is the first joint release from California-based production team Lustre Kings and upcoming Brooklyn, NY based urban reggae group Noble Society. On their records and in their Live performances Noble Society blends the sounds of hip-hop and dancehall reggae in an infectious way. Vocalist Jah Dan is renowned for his numerous appearances on recordings that include Branford Marsalis and DJ Premier's "Buckshot Lefonque" album, and work with Cocoa Brovaz, Afu-Ra and Dead Prez. Other band members include drummer Deantoni Parks; bassist, Rory Jackson; lyricist, Delie; and producer/guitarist, Diego "Fuego" Campo. Lustre Kings' Digital Ancient has linked the original Diego "Fuego" Campo track to his own euphonic blend of reggae, hip-hop, and R n'B. The final result is an infectious laid-back riddim with beautiful guitar riffs over a rugged, Nyabinghi beat, sometimes layered with appealing saxophone and flute parts. The album, which features a collection of artists from the hot Virgin Islands roots movement, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Brooklyn, NY, opens in real fine style with Noble Society's "New Day", actually the first single to be released from their forthcoming album "Take Charge". With "New Day" the group delivers a song of promise; encouraging spiritual and political progress. Between the album opener and the closing track of this "one riddim" set, the dub mix version of "New Day", the listener is treated to quite a few tunes that are truly worth of hearing. One of these tunes is the solid "Trodding On", on which Midnite's lead singer Vaughn Benjamin combines an ancient voice and peaceful, mesmerizing delivery. Others are the defiant "If Jah Is For You", a stand out effort from longtime Lustre Kings' singjay talent Lutan Fyah; Norris Man's matching cut "When Babylon A Burn"; "Segregation" from reggae veteran Rankin' Scroo; Niyorah's original and sincere love song "Always"; Mark Messam's wonderful "Way Back To Love"; Abijah's uplifting "Swept Away"; and the immaculate "Royal Bless", with St. Croix's Ras Attitude eloquently crooning to all the ladies.
"New Day Riddim" is a very entertaining "one riddim" set, recommended for those who are looking for tunes with cultural diversity and meaningful intent performed over an innovative and classic new riddim!
