Produced by Selecta Kty of French sound system I Love Sound (in collaboration with Oneness Records from Germany and Seedness Music from France), the fresh sounding "Old Timer" riddim with its wicked bass line and accented horn lines features solely female artists from Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. From the first tones it's obvious that the "Old Timer" is a great live played 'one drop' roots riddim. Add to this that this set includes some excellent voicings, and we don't have to tell you that this collection is well worth checking out.

Twelve empresses -- with Queen Omega, Sara Lugo, Tamika and reggae vet Judy Mowatt, being the ones that have already attracted notable attention in the past -- deliver their goods in a convincing and fully satisfying way. Opening with Queen Omega's excellent "Woman", an empowering testament to all (black) women, this 'one drop' juggling is furthermore shaped by great efforts such as K Vibes' "Pull Up", Sara Lugo's "Learn", and the awesome "Jah Love" by former I-Threes singer Judy Mowatt. While these four cuts form the main pillars of the "Old Timer" riddim, a number of others are also worth hearing. These include Princess Nayah's "Zion", Tamika's "Enough", Yaz Alexander's "Everybody's Wants It" and the wonderful "Stop Me If You Can" by Nina Alverdez.

A fine selection from start to finish and thus certainly worth adding to any modern roots fan's collection.
