"Studio One Classics" is another great selection of Studio One music from London based Soul Jazz Records crew. It's a celebration of the music of Studio One and a tribute to the late Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd. He died of a heart attack on Tuesday 4th May 2004 at the age of 72. Check out our site for a retrospective on Coxsone Dodd.
Studio One was often described as both the University of Reggae and the Motown of Jamaica. The number of artist who began their musical career at Studio One is countless. Studio One's output spans over four decades, which are all represented on this album as it includes Ska, Danxcehall, Roots, Rocksteady, Deejay, Lovers and more. Just check out the tunes here - most of them should be familiar to long time fans of the label - and you must agree that this collection comes near the definitive "Best of Studio One", however we would have included at least a Freddie McGregor tune, one John Holt song and a Bob Andy song!
These songs here need no further introduction nor description, they are 200% full proof reggae classics!
